Marathons. The word itself puts fear into most hardened athletes. For me, it was every other year I would train to run a marathon. Now I wonder if I would do one every year. I ran the 25th Annual Compass Bank Cape Cod Marathon on Sunday October 27th and had a great time. I found it funny that I keep participating in runs that are anniversaries. My time was 4:10:26 at a pace of 9:34. I even did a personal best in this race. I cut 3 mns off my time. I was told this course was a very difficult one with several gruelling hills for the last 8 km of the race. They were difficult but with a steady pace I was able to triumph ! The day was warm and sunny, touted as the best weather the race had ever had in 25 years. The race included running along the coast with the sound of the ocean waves splashing into the rocks and along the sands. As I was running I could feel the cool mist from the ocean blow against my skin to give me that sudden burst of energy as I grinded up a twisting hill. The scenery was fantastic. I saw colonial old houses, lighthouses and of course a huge blue ocean. I received some interesting things due to this race. Upon registration I received a large drinking glass, and a long sleeved T- shirt. At the finish line I won a draw prize from Dunkin Donuts which included a bag another t-shirt and of course my finisher medal. Then to remind me of this fabulous race, I was happy to find a certificate in the mail a few weeks later. Besides for getting several things I came home with some great memories. I went to Cape Cod and stayed at friends who lived ½ hour away from the run. I met these friends while running in Utica, NY. Our new friends are runners as well. They brought us to various areas of Cape Cod including Martha’s Vineyards. In Martha’s Vineyards we went to a store called The Black Dog. Interesting things to buy if one likes to shop. At last I must finish by saying that when
you are in Cape Cod be sure to try the Clam Chowder from New England, it
is like no other. The Administration
